Basic Beat 12" Pretuned Hand Drum

Basic Beat 12" Pretuned Hand Drum Review

Basic Beat 12" Pretuned Hand Drum Feature

  • 12" diameter x 2.5" thick pretuned hand drum.
  • Features a maple wood shell with a synthetic skin head.
Quality construction makes this a drum that will last; a webbed fabric band is securely glued around the seam where the head meets the shell of the drum. The depth of the shell gives this drum a full, resonant sound. (Remember, since the head is not tunable each drum may have a slightly different pitch.)

Djun Djun Small

Djun Djun Small Review

Djun Djun Small Feature

  • Kenkeni Djun - Get a Commanding and Focused Sound from this Djun from West Africa

The Small Djun Djun measures 20 inches tall and 10 inches in diameter.

As with the Djembe, the Djun Djun also originated in West Africa. These authentic Djun Djuns are the real deal. These drums are hand crafted in Ghana and are of a professional quality. Also known as dundun or dun dun, they accompany the Djembe in a symbiotic relationship.
Typically sold as a set, the largest drum is called the doundoumba, the medium is the sangban, and baby of the family is the kenkeni.

These drums are masterfully carved in a traditional West African pattern. The drums are constructed of a single piece of legally harvested Masonia wood. The heads are made of cow hide for durability as they are played with sticks. The hair is left on the heads to eliminate any ringing sounds and to provide a nice heavy bottom end.

Alpine lacing is used to ensure durability and to reduce the effects of weather on the tone. The bearing edge of the drum, the surface where the head stretches over the drum's shell, is coated in wax to seal the end grain of the wood and reduce the chances of the shell cracking. This also aids in opening up the sound of the drum by allowing the head to vibrate freely. The crown rings are wrapped in cloth to prolong the life of the rope. These drums come with braded rope handles attached to both ends for ease of handling.

Cooperman Bendir 14"

Cooperman Bendir 14" Review

Bendir 14"
A simple braid of 4 fine dacron snares is threaded through the shell across the back of the drum head to produce the distinctive buzzing sound of this Moroccan style bendir. The player can adjust the tension on these snares, or release them entirely to eliminate the buzzing effect.

Copperman's 4" deep shell is made of solid, single ply 5/16" cherry, steam bent and scarf jointed, and features a precision beveled bearing edge.

The edge of the head is secured into an exterior groove, which is then covered with a colored knit cord. This design minimizes the tendency of the head to pull away from the shell. These drums are available with a goatskin head or a REMO synthetic head.

Cooperman's patented internal tuning technology preserves the traditional appearance of the instrument and allows the player to maintain a complete range of motion, unencumbered by external hardware. Tension on the head is adjusted by the action of an internal, lightweight, moveable bearing member. A Tgrip Allen wrench and tuning instructions are included.

A smoothly rolled 1 " thumb hole is strategically placed so that the drum is well balanced and comfortable in your hands.

A hand rubbed, natural finish accentuates the inherent beauty of the wood

A soft padded carrying case is provided with each drum;
